Glen Garry

Glen Garry

This photo was taken from the viewpoint on the A87 en route to Fort William. The lay bye for the viewpoint was full of various vehicles. There were loads of people of all nationalities taking pictures of the view. There was hardly an English voice to be heard in the crowd. There were Italians,Asians,Germans and Dutch and they were the languages that I recognised. It has amazed me how many foreign people visit this part of Scotland and it made me proud to be British
We travelled on to Fort William for a trip into the town. This did not make me proud! Fort William is very down at heel and quite depressed. It has deteriorated since I last visited. Anyway we trawled the charity shops, of which there are quite a few, and found some more DVDs. This will provide entertainment for the next few evenings. The previous campsite had a TV ariel hook up which was quite a treat. Damnvan1 does have her own TV and ariel but quite frankly we can’t be bothered fiddling with it!
We now find ourselves camped at Glen Nevis camp site at the foot of Ben Nevis. Ben Nevis is 1344m high and every year 100,000 people reach the summit. I am informed that the summit has its own sub-Arctic climate and it can snow any day of the year. It looks huge to me from down in the glen. I can’t imagine climbing to the top. Mind you climbing stairs to bed makes me breathless!
