Day at the beach in Durness

Day at the beach in Durness

We walked or rather were blown along the cliff tops in Durness. It was wonderful wild and exhilarating. I can understand why a landscape inspires artists. Durness is the place which is said to have inspired John Lennon to write “In my Life” for the Beatles. He is said to have visited frequently as a child to stay with his aunt in the summers. There is a memorial to him in the village with the words of the song inscribed on it.
We stumbled across the most beautiful beach on our walk. We had tried to avoid the cows when we crossed a field but the Mum cows were obviously taking the baby cows for a day out on the beach. These beaches are some of the best in Britain (if you avoid the cow pats!)
Tomorrow we move onto Ullapool which is said to be a stunning journey so I will report back.

You will absolutely love Ullapool, we camped there around this time last year, about 5′ from the side of the loch! It is very nice. And a good place for a day trip to the Summer Isles, we drove there, taking a picnic. Big WOW factor, the whole area. Best regards, Katherine
